550,000 Minnesotans—children, teens, seniors, and parents—live in households that struggle to afford rent.
Let’s make it zero.
Why care about affordable housing?
Regardless of the town we live in, the color of our skin, the amount of income we make, or our cultural background, we all benefit from a more safe, stable, and economically healthy Minnesota where each of us has an affordable place to call home.
Paying 30% or less of our income on rent allows us to save for an emergency, make healthier decisions, experience less stress, and support our children in ways they deserve.
However, over 550,000 Minnesotans live in households that pay well over 30% of their income on rent for the simple reason that wage increases have not kept up with housing costs.
Under these circumstances, we see increased levels of crime, strained emergency services, declining academic performance, heightened levels of chronic stress, and dampened economic growth.
These circumstances impact us all. But we can do something about it together.
What can we do to make housing more affordable in Minnesota?
In 2023, Minnesota created its first ever rental assistance voucher program known as “Bring it Home, Minnesota.”
Rent vouchers ensure that an individual or family will not pay more than 30% of their income on monthly rent, which increases housing options.
However, this program only has funding to meet 1% of the need, putting thousands of Minnesota families in a state of housing insecurity.
That’s why we need Minnesotans like you who care about their neighbors and communities to encourage our law-makers to fully fund Bring it Home, Minnesota.
Will you join the thousands of Minnesotans who agree that—no matter what part of the state we live in, how much we make, or what the color of our skin is—we all do better when we all have a safe, affordable place to call home?
Take the next step by signing up for email updates from Bring it Home, Minnesota.
We’ll keep you posted on opportunities to advocate as well as legislative updates from our state capitol.
Together, we can Bring it Home, Minnesota!
